Indian Association for Social Psychiatry (IASP) institutes various sponsorships to promote growth in the field of social psychiatry. Application for the 2023 “Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology Fellowship Award” are now open to all members of IASP. Two IASP members will be nominated for this award from IASP by the Executive Council . The nominations will be forwarded to the JSPN and final approval will be provided by the JSPN. The last date for submission for the award to IASP is 31st August, 2022. Applications submitted after this date will not be considered. The last date for application to JSPN is September 25th, 2022 (Japan time)

GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATION:

We invite applications from young psychiatrists, who are member of Indian Association for Social Psychiatry, for the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology (JSPN) Fellowship Award-2023.
Young psychiatrist for the purpose of this award should:

1. Be psychiatrists younger than 40 years of age or with 10 years or less experience in psychiatry
2. Not be previous recipients of the JSPN Fellowship Award
3. Belong to a World Psychiatric Association member society

The purpose of this award is to recognize early-career, outstanding psychiatrists and to encourage academic discussion and personal friendships with early-career Japanese psychiatrists at the 119th annual meeting of the JSPN from June 22nd to 24th, 2023, in PACIFICO Yokohama North, Japan.

Award recipients will receive:

  • Waiver or registration fees
  • Accommodation
  • Participation in the meeting for the three-day period
  • Presentation at one of the international sessions (on the topic for which the recipient applied)

Award recipients will receive a prize (JPY 70,000 for recipients from World Bank A and B category countries, and JPY 140,000 for those from C and D countries) money of support. Award recipients will also be expected to participate in future JSPN Fellowship Award Alumni programs.

Applicants must submit an abstract of 200 – 250 words in length.

Topic 1: Roles of psychiatrists in emergency medical services

In your country/region,
Q1. Describe what kind of psychiatry-related issues exist in emergency medical services.

Q2. Describe the role that psychiatrists play and are also expected to play in resolving the issues presented for Q1.

Q3. Describe the barriers in promoting the role of psychiatrists in emergency medical services and the initiatives and policies that may be effective in promoting the role of psychiatrists.

Topic 2: Case Vignette

Q1. What is the diagnosis of this case? Describe the examination, comorbidities, and differential diagnosis in your answer.

Q2. What type of treatment or intervention would you provide? Describe the use of medication, psychotherapy, social resources, etc.

Q3. Describe the typical pathways for patients with severe pain to seek medical care and the departments they visit in your country. Also, describe the situation in your country with regard to commonly used drugs, interventions, and problems.

Q4. What is your approach to patients who repeatedly transferred from one doctor to another? Describe the responses in your country, including hospital linkages, referral systems, and coordination of social resources.
