Indian Association for Social Psychiatry Nomination Form JSPN-2024

Dear Members

The Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology (JSPN) is now accepting applications for the JSPN Fellowship Award, which is presented to early-career psychiatrists from Asia and around the world. The purpose of this award is to recognize early-career, outstanding psychiatrists and to encourage academic discussion and personal friendships with early-career Japanese psychiatrists at the 120th annual meeting of the JSPN from June 20th to 22nd, 2024 in Sapporo, Japan.

We invite applications from young psychiatrists, who are member of Indian Association for Social Psychiatry, for the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology (JSPN) Fellowship Award-2024.

Young psychiatrist for the purpose of this award should:

  1. Be psychiatrists younger than 40 years of age or with 10 years or less experience in psychiatry
  2. Not be previous recipients of the JSPN Fellowship Award.

The Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology (JSPN) is now accepting applications for the JSPN Fellowship Award, which is presented to early-career psychiatrists from Asia and around the world. The purpose of this award is to recognize early-career, outstanding psychiatrists and to encourage academic discussion and personal friendships with early-career Japanese psychiatrists at the 120th annual meeting of the JSPN from June 20th to 22nd, 2024 in Sapporo, Japan.
The awardees and Japanese psychiatrists have collaborated to produce academic publications. Their achievements can be found here.

 

Eligibility

Applicants must:

  1. Be 40 years old or less, or have 10 years or less experience in psychiatry when the JSPN Annual Meeting is held in 2024
    2. Not be previous recipients of the JSPN Fellowship Award
    3. Belong to a World Psychiatric Association member society
    (To ensure broad participation from around the world, the JSPN accepts nominations from each society up to a maximum of two applicants.)

 

Note: Award recipients will receive a waiver of meeting registration fees, accommodation, and a prize (JPY 70,000 for recipients from World Bank A and B category countries, and JPY 140,000 for those from C and D category countries). Prize money will be given in cash at the venue.

 

Award recipients will be expected to:

  • stay at a designated accommodation site
  • participate in the meeting for the three-day period
  • give a presentation at one of the Award symposia (on the topic for which the recipient applied)
  • attend other programs for JSPN Fellowship Award recipients

Award recipients will also be expected to participate in future JSPN Fellowship Award Alumni programs. They can carry out research about each theme in psychiatry with Japanese young psychiatrists and past Fellowship Awardees.

Applicants must choose one of the following two topics and submit an abstract of 200 – 250 words in length.

 

  1.   Suicide Prevention

For Suicide Prevention, applicants are required to submit an abstract that includes some of the items 1-4 below.

1. Background factors as a country
Describe the situation of suicide in your country, its economic impact, prevalence of mental disorders leading to suicide, age structure, and social problems in the social context (e.g. poverty). if relevant statistics are not available, describe the challenges in your country.

  1. Systems for treatment and consultation
    Are early intervention and counseling for suicide provided as a medical service in your country? Describe the flow of medical and administrative services to those with suicidal ideation or who have attempted suicide. Describe the number of treatment facilities, availability and content of standard treatment programs, consultation facilities and systems, cooperation between hospitals and clinics, scope of consultation, and medical insurance coverage.
  2. Prevention and Education
    Describe prevention education for citizens (e.g., mental health education), approaches to individuals at high risk of suicide (e.g., how to identify them), patient support, family support, supporter training, and the development of suicide prevention applications using AI technology.
  3. Future Prospects
    Please share your thoughts on future suicide prevention measures in your country, or measures that you think are desirable nationally or globally.< PDF file>
  4. Case Vignette

Regarding the attached file ([ 2 ] Case Vignette), applicants are required to submit an abstract responding to the following questions.

Q1. When this patient comes to you, what diagnoses would you include in your differential, and what tests would you perform? Please include comorbidities.

Q2. How many older people live alone in your country?

Q3. To what extent are loneliness, insecurity, and poverty among older people a social problem in your country?

Q4. What systems exist in your country to support these people?
